Flying traditional helicopters is rewarding, but it’s also unforgiving. Drones help level that learning curve. Even beginner pilots can fly with confidence! Check out the features and the variety of drones available and you’ll see why hobbyists think they’re the best thing spinning!

RealFlight 7.5 R/C Flight Simulator

Start Here.

No one jumps into a full-size aircraft and takes off without any preparation, so why should you with a drone model? You don’t have to. There are R/C flight simulators that are as close to the real deal as you can get! RealFlight is the top-rated R/C flight simulator out there, and RF7.5 has great new features drone pilots will love! Just having drone aircraft already sets RF7.5 ahead of the curve, but the pristine graphics, life-like physics and incredible skill-building challenges really put it in a class all its own. There are a number to choose from – one of the best is Great Planes RealFlight 7.5! In addition to a wide variety of airplanes, it also offers plenty of heli and drone aircraft options for you to fly. If you prefer to fly with a "real" model first, check out the helpful Starter Sailplanes tab above.

Choosing A Radio

There is only one drawback to Drone helis; all those features need a lot of radio buttons. Fortunately, most drone aircraft come with their own radios which are specially designed for the aircraft.
Heli-Max 1Si Quadcopter SLT 2.4GHz RTFThe controls on the 1Si are designed so that taking pictures and video doesn’t detract from your flying experience. Take pictures and video with a single click without ever taking your thumbs off the sticks!
Each RTF quadcopter comes with its own radio. If you want a radio that can fly all the drones available, however, the Futaba 10JH is the only way to fly.

With one radio you get 10-channel control, 30 model memory and drone specific programming. By the way, it’s the only multi-function radio with drone programming. And when you do decide that you want to fly airplanes, sailplanes, helicopters, gliders and giant-scale warbirds, the Futaba 10JH will take it all in stride.

Popular Drone Features

Drone aircraft have had a lot of features from the very beginning and more are being added every day. Here’s a list of some of the most important ones, many of which are Heli-Max exlusives! The more features your heli has, the easier you can operate the model. Not every drone has all of these features. Check your drone’s product description to see which features it has.

TAGS (Triple Axis Gyro Stabilization)

TAGS (Triple Axis Gyro Stabilization)
Stabilizes the yaw, pitch and roll of your heli, eliminating unwanted drift caused by wind and making flying a breeze.

TAGS-FX gives you all the benefits of TAGS plus a 3-axis accelerometer. The accelerometer prevents drift, keeping you more in control than ever before!

Actual Direction Control

Actual Direction Control
Turn on Actual Direction Control and your heli goes in the same direction that you move the sticks — whether it’s flying toward you or away from you.

Return to Pilot

Return To Pilot
Return to Pilot brings the heli back to its pilot automatically. Simply push a transmitter button; built-in sensors call the model “home”.

Altitude Control Management

Altitude Control Management

Altitude Control Management automatically holds the heli at your set altitude or limits flight to under 10 feet (3 meters), while you concentrate on mastering other aspects of control.

If the signal is lost while flying, the heli will enter Fail-Safe mode, holding its altitude at the time of signal loss and hovering for approximately one minute before slowly descending.

Master drone fun!

Helis can be a challenge, even for experienced pilots, but with the innovative features packed into the drones below, even beginner pilots can fly fearlessly. All drone aircraft have counter-rotating props which make them inherently more stable than standard helicopters. Many also feature control aids like TAGS™, Intelligent Control, Return-to-Pilot and more. Couple that ease of flight with the ability to take pictures and videos, the fun of indoor flights and the durability of drone aircraft, and it’s easy to see why so many hobbyists think drones are the best thing spinning!

Tower Hobbies strives to keep its prices low and its quality high. There is a heli for everybody, from the “fully flight-ready for under fifty” Proto-X to the decked-out 230Si! Check each product listing to see which drone is your favorite!
